First thing before launch, do we have right signals and equipment to steer with?

Maybe a check if there are other as have travel business on this trip, where are they and how they look like? If we put business in big different steps, like; most developed steering equipment has automotive and electronic business based on efficiency, development, profit and robustness, also if you use the word sustainable, (as I see it, I have not seen them all) is that the one we compete with? Yes/No.

Next two levels are harder to describe and its often connected with the size and age of the company, smaller / newer companies das not have uber sophisticated systems or big teams as work with all the KPI´s at the same time and in a same direction, and I see that as a nature thing, who will spend all the money to a system when you have a trillion other investments as give more impact at moment.

Make a competitor investigation to understand your neighborhood! It´s not easy, but try to check their suppliers and customers to, it will also strengthen the picture.

The million-dollar question will be; shall we continue in existing shape and format, where will that lead, can we change the journey?

As some person stated, yes we can 😊, you can use tools and methods to secure the development and your journey, you can also use people as have used a bigger toolbox and the experience they have learn from other past journeys they have done, that will help and boost your journey, it will cost more but you can bridge and overrule many failures and in a longer term that will be cheaper.

Back to steering equipment!

You can google KPI’s and get rough 14 000 000 results, that’s equal with a jungle, I will say there is hand full as you must see and use, most important is to find the KPI´s as showing the most critical factors for you business wherever you are in the journey, (KPI`s are not the same for all business and its also connected where you are in the journey) many companies wrestling with poor results and have hard times to get the company running, if so; cashflow and earnings per product or service are maybe the most important and also the cost, total and for each account, easy way for accounts: 2 parameters, the biggest account (pareto) and those who has the biggest variation, variation is never welcomed, anywhere!

Its not that hard to calculate if the costume fit, will a great month cover the expense? If not, all other day will be worse, when costume fit the ordinary standard result of a month will carry the cost.

So, medicine: Sell more, lower the cost, change margin or do all.

One KPI as I suggest is the one as showing you company moving forward, it should also be easy to understand for all employees, all shall have the opportunity to improve the KPI Pick one, own the one, stick to it.

Here you can see the most important and critical are the one in front of your eyes, that is the one as showing the direction, and then we see hundreds of more controls, on top of that, all controls are included in one (1) system, it means; if some less critical KPI are bad or lower then estimated, you will see how that impact the overall performance, right?
